BMESkates - The Competition

Welcome to the BMESkates

Let me thank you for registering and being a competitor. We want you to do your best. Please download the Registration Form and waiver and bring then completed and signed to the tournament. If under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by your parents or legal guardian.

THE SKATER DUTIES AND CODE OF CONDUCT

All Skaters will have the following responsibilities: 

  • Skaters agree to abide by the rules and regulations of this sport.
  • Skaters will report to the competition at the BMESkates registration table at least one hour before their  event.
  • Skaters will acquaint themselves with the competition.
  • Skaters will clear the competition area before the competition begins and avoid interfering in any way with the progress of the competition.
  • Skaters will respect and accept the judges’ decision.
  • While there is no minimum age set for athletes to be able to compete, competitors under the age of 18 are to wear protective gear.
  • Skaters must be aware of their surroundings at all times and should take precautions to be extra careful and considerate of other skaters, especially when on course. To avoid collisions, it is forbidden to wear headphones or any other distracting device while practicing or competing.

Head judge

  • Head Judge is the highest authority in the Judging Panel.
  • The Head Judge can evaluate and change an appropriate decision.
  • The Head Judge, together with the Judges, checks and approves scores before it is announced.
  • All event judges must look at the safety of all competing athletes as their priority.
  • Judges can educate, recommend if needed, the use of proper safety gear to all athletes during the whole duration of the competition.
  • All judges can tell skaters about their expectations of a clean routine with various interesting tricks.
  • Judges will evaluate the competition fairly.
  • Judges will be looking for the technical level of skater best performance. 

Timekeeper

The Timekeeper is responsible for keeping the times of the competition. They operate by using a clock to determine the number of seconds giving to each athlete.

Announcer

The announcer (one or more) delivers commentary, as well as communications/deliberations between Organizing Committee and Head Judge, to the audience and Skaters.

  • They announce the starting order and introduce the Skaters.
  • They announce the competition results.
  • They make announcements of interest for everyone.
  • They announce the contest timing.
  • They should comment on the athletes’ performance and in an entertaining, balanced and respectful way.
  • They help to keep a positive and friendly atmosphere during the whole time of the competition and practice hours.

Medical Emergency

An ambulance will be on-site for the entire duration of the competition.  

Competition area access

During the event, access in the competition area will be permitted only to:

  • Staff
  • Skaters
  • Photographer
  • Judges
  • Announcer
  • DJ if available
  • Provider of medical and paramedical services

For each phase of the competition to begin, the competition area shall be clear of Skaters, technical staff and media operators. The presence of objects and people on the margins of the competition area can be allowed only if it does not interfere with the competing Skaters’ performance.

Maximum number of Skaters in the competition area

  • All tricks must be performed within the skating area only.
  • The maximum number of skaters at one time will be determined by the judges.

Skaters’ safety protection

All skaters shall use the safety gear they deem necessary to guarantee their safety. Athletes under the age of 18 should wear protective gear.  If you are required to use a helmet, failure to wear it will result in disqualification.

Protective gear

While leaving the choice to the Athlete’s preference, BMESkates suggests that all athletes should wear protective gear. 

Competition rounds terminology

This is subject to change depending on the number of applicants.

AWARDS

Children will award medals for participating.

If a skater decides to stop: The run is scored up until the withdrawal.
